Jim Carico oversees all operational functions of the paramedic and EMT crews and the Knox County ambulance fleet. He has worked in the emergency services industry for more than 35 years after he entered an Explorer program in Blount County at the age of 14 and was later hired by the Bounty County Rescue Squad as an EMT. From 1988 to 1996, Jim worked at the Maryville Police Department as a patrol officer and a master patrol officer corporal. During this time, he began working at Rural/Metro as a part-time EMT and was later promoted to paramedic, ambulance supervisor in Knox and Blount counties and supervisor for Rural/Metro’s Alcoa operations. From 2002 to 2008, Jim was the full-time operations manager of Rural/Metro’s Knox County division. Jim is a licensed paramedic by the State Technical Institute, now known as Pellissippi State Community College. He has completed coursework in the firefighter program at Roane State Community College and the law enforcement program at Walters State Community College.
